Optical Properties of Spin-Coated Polymer Films

In this paper, different morphology and optical properties of poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) thin films were investigated. Films were fabricated by spin coating under different preparation condition. PMMA polymers with molecular weight ranged from 15,000 to 996,000 were prepared in solution with various concentration ranged from 5.0 to 20.0 wt. %. The spin coating speed was controlled at 1,000 to 2,500 rev/min. Optical properties of the thin films were investigated using prism coupling and other related techniques. The results indicated that refractive index of PMMA was changed by varying the parameters in the preparation of PMMA thin films. It is concluded that solution concentration and spin coating speed play a significant role in PMMA thin films fabrication, on the other hand it will affect the optical properties of the polymers.
